Ballroom dance consists of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. Because of its performance and entertainment aspects, ballroom dance is also widely enjoyed on stage, film and television.
These dances include Fox Trot, Waltz and Quick Step.

Known for its sensual hip action and sexy flair, Latin dance is gaining popularity on dance floors everywhere. Movies about Latin dancing (those that portray the beauty of the art of Latin dancing) seem to be favorites among dancers and non-dancers alike. Besides being a staple in the ballroom, many Latin dances are also being taken to country-western dance floors.
Examples include the cha-cha-cha, rumba, salsa, samba, mambo, merengue, bachata, paso doble and bolero. Some also consider tango and Argentine tango on this list.

Swing dance is most commonly known as a group of dances that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s-1950s, although the earliest of these dances predate “swing era” music. The best known of these dances is the Lindy Hop, a popular partner dance that originated in Harlem in 1927 and is still danced today.
Swing era dances: Lindy Hop, Charleston, Shag and Balboa. This group is often extended to include West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Jive, Rock and Roll and other dances that developed in the 1940s and later.

A line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows without regard for the gender of the individuals. All facing the same direction the dancers all execute the steps at the same time. Line dancers are not in physical contact with each other.
Older line dances have lines in which the dancers face each other, or the line is actually a circle. Sometimes all dancers in the line follow a leader around the dance floor while holding the hands of the dancers beside them.

Ballet is a very formal and strict type of performance dance. Ballet originated in 16th and 17th century French courts, and was further developed in England, Italy and Russia as a concert dance form. Early ballet dance performances were presented in large chambers with most of the audience seated on tiers on three sides of the dance floor.
Early ballet dancers were not as highly skilled as they are now, as ballet dance has become a highly technical form of dance with its very own French vocabulary. Ballet dance is typically performed to classical music. It is taught in ballet dance schools and studios around the world to students ranging in age from toddler to adult. In order to become proficient at ballet, one must be extremely dedicated to the art and diligent in regard to practice and rehearsal time.

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.
Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows and in movies, music videos and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic.

Tap is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term “tap dancing” is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor or surface.
Tap dancing is a vigorous form of dance, requiring a great deal of physical fitness. Many kids as well as adults tap dance for fun and exercise. It builds aerobic fitness and muscle control.
